Mommy / Daddy & Me: Intro to STEAM
Ages: 2-5 (with adult)
Prerequisite: None
Early exposure to STEAM / STEM has positive impacts across the entire spectrum of learning. This session uses exploration, play, building and curiosity with simple machines and textures to allow children to experientially learn using their senses. Adult participation required.
Classes start week of
Coding 101
Ages: 5+
Prerequisite: None
This session serves as an introduction to coding techniques using block-based programming. We will explore how code converts to instructions a machine 'understands'. Your young engineers will be introduced to patterns, algorithms, loops and events.
Design 101
Ages: 5-8
Prerequisite: None
This session serves as an introduction to design and artistic expression. We will explore pixel art and 2 dimensional models. Stop motion technology will be used to experiment with automation.
Classes start week of
Design 201
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: Design 101
Circuits 101
This session will explore advanced topics in pixel art and introduction to 3D pens and templates. Your young engineers will be invited to build ornaments and jewelry. Paper crafting will also be introduced, as will light-up crafts.
Robotics 101
Ages: 5-8
Prerequisite: None
This session serves as an introduction to robotics and components as well as imaginative play and creative story-telling. Your young engineers will build robots from spare parts and will use commercially available robots to 'teach' robots commands using markers.
Classes start
Robotics 201
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: Robotics 101
Coding 101
Building on Robotics 101 topics, this session will work with more complex robots. Coding of robots will occur via a 3rd party device (i.e. tablet).
Classes start
Project-Based Robotics
Ages: 12+
Prerequisite: Robotics 201
Advanced topics to include agile project planning techniques and concepts. Your young engineers will use design thinking techniques to innovate. They will then be provided with materials to build and create. Iterative building, regular feedback loops and demo opportunities will be taught and shared.
Circuits 101
Ages: 5-8
Prerequisite: None
This session will serve as an introduction to circuits and electricity. We will build projects using a board that functions like a printed circuit board found in most electronic products. Your young engineers will also be introduced to paper circuits.
Classes start week of
Circuits 201
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: Circuits 101
Building on concepts learned in Circuits 101, your young engineers will explore paper circuits and be introduced to advanced electronic building blocks. The idea generation cycle will also be introduced.
Classes start week of
Circuits 301
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: Circuits 101
Coding 101
Advanced topics in circuitry and electrical engineering will be introduced to your young engineers. Arduinos and/or Raspberry Pi devices devices will be introduced, as well as advanced coding techniques, to encourage the building and coding of new inventions.
eWearables 101
Ages: 9-12
Prerequisite: Maker 101
Your young engineer will be introduced to sewing concepts and together we will revisit basic circuitry. Materials (fabric/felt) will be used to create simple e-wearable projects.
Circuits and Movement
Ages: 12+
Prerequisite: eWearables 101
Coding 101
We will review eWearable concepts (sewing, circuitry, fabric selection) and coding. Your young engineer will then program sensors and lights to coincide with rhythmical musical patterns. We will also assemble eWearables once programmed.
STEAM Sampler
Ages: 5-12
Prerequisite: None
Science? Technology? Robotics? Engineering? Art? Math? Not sure what to focus on? Join us for sampling of STE(A)M activities.
Classes start week of
Maker 101
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: Circuits 101
Design 101
We will review circuits and design concepts. LEDs, yarn and fabric will be introduced. Participants will make simple projects.
Project-Based Maker
Ages: 12+
Prerequisite: Maker 101
Advanced topics to include agile project planning techniques and concepts. Your young engineers will use design thinking techniques to innovate. They will then be provided with materials to build and create. Iterative building, regular feedback loops and demo opportunities will be taught and shared.
Entrepreneurship 101
Ages: 8-12
Prerequisite: None
Have a great idea? Learn to plan to start a business. We will use idea generation techniques and introduce long and short-term planning concepts. We will review the meaning of marketplace, creativity and innovation. Your young entrepreneurs will plan to take an idea to market by the end of this session.
Entrepreneurship 201
Ages: 12+
Prerequisite: Entrepreneurship 101
Project-Based Maker
We will review concepts from Entrepreneurship 101. We will leverage projects built in either Project-Based Robotics or Project-Based Maker sessions. Your young engineers / entrepreneurs will plan to sell their products at (TBD) market.
Leadership
Ages: 12+
Prerequisite: None
Your young leaders will be introduced to servant leadership principles and to the agile mindset. Role playing scenarios will be enacted and your young leaders will be offered internship coaching to the above 101 sessions.
